Dan Sinker/notes

Most of the time my thoughts aren't long enough for a blog post. My shortform notes get posted on Mastodon and Bluesky, and also wind up here.

“We are currently clean on OPSEC” is definitely the LOL line in the published groupchat.

The funniest thing about all this to me is I've WRITTEN for the Atlantic and nobody looped the EIC into our chats, inadvertently or otherwise.

The thing about groupchats, even on Signal, is they are only as secure as your weakest link member.

My day job is to help run a search for a fellowship program that has always brought in some of the most amazing, creative, and righteous people I have ever known. And this year the search is being completely overrun with near-identical madlib answers generated with ChatGPT. It's so disheartening.

Full on Dear Leader shit right here. Asked about the anecdote, Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, did not directly address it but said that the president “is a virtuoso and his musical choices represent a brilliant palette of vibrant colors when others often paint in pale pastels.” Mr. Cheung said that, given Mr. Trump’s roles as president and Kennedy Center chair, “there is nobody more uniquely qualified to bring this country, and its rich history of the arts, back to prominence.”

The narrative of DOGE's break-in (literally) at the US Institute of Peace is fucking gnarly as hell. www.washingtonpost.com/national-... On Monday, at approximately 2:30 p.m.” four members of Inter-Con’s local office “came onto the property and attempted to use their key cards to open the doors. Ken Jackson was sitting in a government Lincoln Navigator on 23rd Street.” The security guards “walked around, trying different badge readers” on different doors. Eventually, one “who had retained a manual key to the building” used it to open a side doorO’Brien said he activated “lockdown procedure” preventing the opening of any doors. As the security contractors approached the door, “members of DOGE were running up to enter the building. When they were unsuccessful, they went back to their cars.” It was all, he said, on USIP security cameras.

This is going to ruin the tour. A headline and text detail Senator Chuck Schumer's decision to postpone a book tour due to backlash for voting with Republicans, inciting protests and calls for his resignation from Democratic activists.
