Dan Sinker/work

Got a problem? Let's fucking go.

I'm Dan. I've spent my whole career solving tricky problems, building communities, and telling stories in new ways—from founding a magazine at 19 to running nonprofits to shipping weird little internet experiments that end up connecting with a lot of people. I am always working, why not do it with you.

What I do

Untangle hard problems. I love getting into the weeds on something that feels stuck and finding a path through. Sometimes that's a call or two. Sometimes it's rolling up sleeves alongside you for a while. Bonus points if the answer isn't obvious yet.

Build community. I'm constantly making things with and for real communities. I can help you figure out what your community actually wants and how to make it yours.

Tell better stories. I've done editorial work in every medium: articles, magazines, podcasts, videos—and entirely new ways. Helping folks figure out how to tell their story (or what story to tell) is something I'm always doing.

Jam econo. My heart is DIY. I've run multi-million dollar programs, but more than anything I love helping people design scrappy projects and low-rez prototypes that punch above their weight.

Who I work with

Newsrooms and journalism nonprofits. Civic tech organizations. Universities and foundations. Cultural institutions. Scrappy startups. People with big ideas and small budgets.

I've founded companies, built and led teams, and shipped things that reached millions and some that only a few hundred people saw, and loved just as much.

If your problem is in an industry I haven't worked in before, or the answer isn't obvious yet, even better. And if what you need isn't described anywhere on this page, reach out anyway—honestly that's the best kind of work.

Let's get to work.

Tell me what you're working on. I'll get right back to you.
